Focal Press Purchase here (or preferably at the GVSU bookstore)

We'll be using Adobe InDesign. This is an expensive program and not something you are required to purchase. But it is accessible in all of the GVSU labs. The program is sold on a "membership" basis here. You can get a 30-trial version free and then purchase at $30 per month and cancel at any time. It runs on PC or Mac. The 30 days would get you through much of the semester, then you could purchase for the remaining months. It could also be that you can get by fine with the labs and perhaps may want to use the trial or trial + one-month purchase later in the semester.

Since we will work with Adobe InDesign extensively, you need to be mindful of compatibility issues. The lab in which we will be working offers access to InDesign for PC. If you choose to work with your own computer, you need to take into account that it may not always be easy to move your work from your computer to the computers in the lab. For instance, if you save a file in CS4, you can open it with CS5, CS5.5, or CS6. However, if you design and save a file in CS5, CS5.5 or CS6, you will not be able to open it with CS4. Moving between platforms (PC vs. Mac) can also be challenging--so test things early in the semester.
